Virginia Shreves feels like the average daughter in a perfect family. Her mother obsesses about Virginia's weight and her father is hardly around. Her siblings are living out of the house and Virginia can't measure up - plus, her one best friend just moved to the other side of the county. Throughout the novel, Virginia takes control of her own life in big and small ways and evolves into a confident and happy young woman.
