Melinda begins high school as an outcast. She is the talk of the school ever since she called the police at a party. She was raped at the party by a popular high school guy and feels she can tell no one, not even her parents. Her only refuge is art class. Eventually, through her sympathetic art teacher, she begins the healing process by opening up and finding her voice.
