Edgar Sawtelle, born mute, has a special relationship with Almondine, a Sawtelle, a breed initially designed by his grandfather. When Edgar's father suddenly dies, suspicion lies with Claude, Edgar's uncle. Because Edgar is mute, he faces obstacle and later, goes on the run with three Sawtelles. Echoing Hamlet, this novel is a tragic, yet heartwarming tale. A must read!
